a WEE BIT ABSeNT…

I am a living in my head , as I try and get my grounding in the community that I have chosen for most the Chalmers Fellowship, generously provided by the Ontario Arts Council. I am in an apartment , part of a community for the next several weeks. So that entails groceries, daily exercise, and laundry! It feels so good to be here. I have told a few of you its not exciting or thrilling, but it is comfortable and feels like home. It’s the best feeling, like going home to Grandmas living room.

So my mind is full of questions, like what draws me here and what the possibilities are? Right now I am contemplating, why here, and when I say here I think of Scotland as a whole. The past here is not only visible it is tactile, I can physically and mentally connect. The stone walls, that you know are built long before you , the Brochs that were probably ruins when your great great great grandparents lived here, but that are still here today. I think Pete Harrison said “this place is really the bones of the earth, and geologically it really feels like that.” This place fills my soul!
