unexpected opportunities!

Yes, I have not been blogging as I go through the roller coaster emotions in Lybster UK. My Appologies.

I was fortunate enough to squeeze into a class here at Northlands Glass by Saman Kalantari. Our work is the same yet so different, weird I know. I was amongst the most amazing women in this class, accomplished and confident, it was delightful and I hope I can build on the friendships that have been seeded.

I was then fortunate enough to be invited to a self directed residency at Northlands… I had one week to think, and 2 days after the class to prepare ….. I took advantage of what I don’t have in my work and what I normally don’t do. I chose to work with 2 amazing glass blowers Dan Mirer and Eric Dalberg. I was very hesitant to be in the hot shop. The language and process seem so foreign even though the material is the same.

These guys were generous and kind. I tried to keep in mind the differences between blown and cast and use them to my advantage. I forgot the cold working …Uggggghhhh it took a week to finish these..not all were successful. An opportunity for more learning. ( I seem to be presented with those opportunities frequently!

So grateful to all the people who were part of this opportunity. And I can’t forget the amazing Karlyn Sutherland for knowing exactly what I needed by offering me the time at Northlands. When I started in the class and the residency I was resentful of glass, this was not what I had planned for my Chalmers Fellowshipbut I needed to remind myself that I had hoped for an opportunity to grow during this time. I think the universe and Karlyn , Saman, Eric, Dan and all the others I met have provided just that opportunity. Glad others know what I need😁

these amazing humans came for brunch…Patricia Niemann and Carie Fertig…when internet conversations become reality it is the most amazing! They also helped me get oriented here, above and beyond generous people❤️
