lewis standing stones

I was unprepared…..

These are the Stones of Calanais have stood for 5000 years…talk about feeling insignificant. They are made of Lewisian Gniess ( older than Granite!!😳) so this is an absolute stunning site..if you are ever close, go. They stans about 15 feet high.

We were then on our way back so the hotel and the road is littered with standing stone circles…its absolutely amazing.

The ingenuity and strength of these people is astonishing. What were they used for/ What could be this important? at the base of one of the stones at the second to last stop was a skeleton of a sea urchin and a mussel shell. Bird or offering?
