What a Ride!
So today I am returning from Salt Spring Island, which everyone told me was amazing, but their descriptions don't even come close. The calm sea water, the smell of the ocean, the huge drops of dew hanging everywhere, reflecting the world. Truly an artists paradise.
So I was Invited by the Salt Spring National Art Prize to talk about my work. These people completely know how to do an art show. After being a part of organizing a regional art show, I understand the huge job, and these people did an amazing job. Every detail was meticulously organized and thought out, there were over 800 artists that entered 52 were chosen. I feel extremely lucky.
As most of you know I am pretty introverted, talking to more than 1 person is right there next to cleaning the house...Actually I would probably rather clean the house! But it was fantastic. The audience was engaged and super smart. I had many great questions and once I am talking about my work..I could go on forever...I know, poor audience
I met amazingly talented artists Martin Hebert, Bob Leatherbarrow, Ronald Crawford, Greg Klassen and many more......
I realized how spectacular it would be to be a part of a community...although I have many people who help me online, and talk me down from the ledge, and who offer advice along the way. To these people I am forever grateful....(some people have a team I have a large village).I did wonder at how cool it would be to bring your work to a community artists gathering and get an honest critique, or to be able to borrow a pound of frit when you are out........... that would be amazing!
I can't say enough about these people or this show
It will be held every 2 years ....please please enter...it is an experience....
I flew to Winnipeg today, over the mountains, they are so beautiful and I know we all say that but have you noticed how the striations in the geological formation change and the colour of the mountains toward Calgary are completely different than in the ones on what I assume is the British Columbia side... I have flown over these mountains many many times and I have never noticed this.
I am amazed at where this art journey takes me and how being part of Canada , not only the "North " is subtly entering my consciousness......... hmmmmmm
